We recently had a Relief Society activity where we shared and brought recipes for quick and easy meals for Sundays. Our ward gets out of church at 4:00pm, so unless we want to eat cereal for dinner on Sundays, I've got to find quick meals that I can prepare ahead of time so it can be cooking while we are at church. I'm learning that not everything needs to be totally homemade and take hours of preparation for a meal to be good. One of the ladies submitted this recipe to our R.S cookbook, and I REALLY liked it. Thought I would share it...
French Dip Sandwich with AuJus Sauce
(Andrea Manning)
This recipe is affordable is also easy. It can cook while you are at church. It turns out delicious, like any restaurant style French Dip sandwich. It is a regular Sunday meal in our house.
One 3-4 lb. Round Roast
2 packets of McCormick AuJus gravy
2 packets of McCormick Brown gravy
One Package of Bolillo rolls (these are packaged in the bakery area)
One Package sliced provolone cheese
1. Place roast in a crock pot and cover with water until immersed. Then add your four gravy packets.
2. Cover and turn to high, cook for 6-8 hours (the longer it cooks the more tender the meat) or cook overnight on low heat.
3. When roast is done, cut off any fat it may have on it. Shred meat with two forks.
4.. In oven, broil your rolls with the provolone inside until it is melted, then place meat inside roll and dip it in the gravy from the crock pot. Add onions and green bell peppers if desired.
Makes 6-8 sandwiches. Enjoy!
